CASF Members:
You may be aware of the Ministry of the Environment’s Toxics Reduction Act passed last spring (http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/en/toxics/index.php). As outlined in their EBR submittal, this act requires facilities to prepare pollution prevention plans.
At the present time, the MOE has retained Enviro-Stewards Inc. (www.enviro-stewards.com) to conduct three toxics use reduction based Pollution Prevention/Best Management Practice (P2/BMP) demonstration assessments at fabricated metals facilities in Ontario.
The demonstration assessments would be completed at no monetary cost to the participating facilities.
The assessments would commence November 2009 and draft assessment reports would be completed by the end of February 2010. The participating facilities would remain anonymous unless they elect to disclose their identity in the factsheets completed at the conclusion of the project.
Participants will be selected based on their ability to accommodate the project timetable, usage of some of compounds of interest, and openness to a P2/BMP approach.
If you are interested in being included on a shortlist of potential participants, please provide your contact information and the following information to mail@enviro-stewards.com :
− Approximate size of your facility (square feet)
− The types of processes in use (types of degreasing/cleaning and types of plating),
− Which of the following compounds of interest does your facility use: cadmium, lead, copper, nickel, zinc, chromium, benzene, toluene, tetrachloroethylene, trichloroethylene
